Community Resource Persons/Speakers

Individuals or groups may be invited into the schools to present supplementary information and ideas to the classroom or to the entire school. These experiences afford students the opportunity to benefit from different community viewpoints and outside experts. Care should be taken in selecting these speakers so that they are individuals who respect diversity in thinking and varying views and who are not attempting to inappropriately influence points of view. Additionally, outside speakers should have a connection to the curriculum or support the goals of the school.

Teachers seeking permission to invite speakers shall provide the department chair and/or principal with the following information: name, topic to be discussed, connection to the curriculum or goals of the school. The building principal shall grant approval for speakers and the Assistant Superintendent will review approvals made each year to ensure compliance with this policy. Speakers shall not have any unsupervised access to students.
